About
First Presbyterian Church, Lincoln
First Presbyterian was established April 4, 1869, just two years after Nebraska became a state. The congregation outgrew its first two buildings and is now in its third, located at 840 South 17th Street, occupying the block between F and G streets. The church celebrated the 75th anniversary of its sanctuary and the 50th anniversary of its educational wing and chapel in the year 2002. The sanctuary was designed by Ralph Adams Cram, an architect famous for his interpretation of the gothic style in the contemporary era. To prepare for the anniversary celebrations, the Aeolian Skinner Organ has been completely rebuilt and the chancel has been remodeled, without compromising the building's character.
